BONUS: Andrew Greer Interview On New Mullins Book and a Recap of the Escape to the Lake Tribute Concert

Chris had the opportunity to attend UTR Media's 2017 Escape to the Lake music festival and retreat in Cedar Lake, Indiana. This bonus episode of Between the Songs features an exclusive interview with Andrew Greer, the author of the new book on Rich Mullins Winds of Heaven Stuff of Earth: Spiritual Conversation Inspired by the Life & Lyrics of Rich Mullins. Their talk goes in depth about how the book came together (which features numerous reflections from those who knew Mullins or were inspired by him) as well as about the Mullins tribute album Greer is going to start working on with UTR's Dave Trout, Andrew Osenga, Andrew Peterson, and Reed Arvin (yes, you read that last one correctly!). This bonus also features Chris' recap of Escape to the Lake, the wonderful Mullins tribute concert that took place there, and how he got to hang out with Jimmy Abegg, Ben Pearson, and The Mosleys.

You can pre-order the book (and receive some great extras) by visiting it's official website:

Finally, Joe and Chris were able to share more about the Window Rock tribute concert that will be taking place on September 16. We would love to see you all there. If you want more info on the event or would like to financially support it, please visit our page:

Ep2: Zion's Behold the Man with Beth Snell Lutz

Episode 2 of Rich Mullins: Between the Songs features an in depth look at Rich Mullins' first independent album with his band and ministry Zion. Behold the Man was only ever released independently in 1981, but was kept alive through various bootleg tapes or vinyl copies if you could find them. Joe has put the album up on the Ragamuffin Archive though, so now we can all listen to it. The episode also features an extensive interview with Beth Snell Lutz, Mullins' bandmate and friend. She offers a rare peek into Mullins' early years in Cincinnati leading up to how he found his way into the recording industry in Nashville.

Please check out our previous article so you can listen through the album and read through Beth's commentary on the songs. As always, the episode features Joe and Chris' commentary on the album as well as updates on the various Rich Mullins tributes going on this year. On top of everything else are excited to announce our first "sponsor" of the podcast, St. Rich Beard Oil, which you should most definitely check out here. And finally, Joe's 20th Anniversary Tribute Concert in Window Rock is really coming together, but the event needs patrons and sponsors. Please check out our page for how you can help fund this important event, which will feature David Mullins, Jimmy Abegg, Mitch McVicker, and Eric Hauck.

Update on the LeSEA footage from Andrew Montonera

We have some good news from Andrew Montonera on the "lost" LeSEA footage. Long story short: it has been digitized and will hopefully see the light of day some time in the future. You can read more info at change.org.

Sadly though, there is no update on the whereabouts of Mullins' legendary red patterned sweater from the LeSEA footage. It has possibly been lost forever and thus will never be sold at auction for the potential millions+ dollars it deserves...

Vinyl Preview: Rich Mullins and Zion's "Praise to the Lord"

Please allow us to entice you with this little snippet from the Zion's Behold the Man album. It's the first minute and a half of "Praise to the Lord", the original version of "Sing Your Praise to the Lord" that Amy Grant made famous.

You can check out our previous article featuring a written commentary from Beth on the songs from the album and Youtube videos of each song so you can listen along:

Also remember to check out Beth's own Youtube page featuring numerous early Rich Mullins songs.

An Update on the Be God's Project From Jimmy Abegg

Here's an update from Jimmy Abegg on the Be God's project. Joe was able to visit Jimmy and record this update himself. Jimmy's is an honest guy with integrity and he's giving us a straight a story as he can. The project is being put on hold for now, but we have big hopes he'll be able to re-group and launch the project again but in a different form:

Bonus: An Inside Look at the Lost Rich Mullins LeSEA Tapes With Andrew Montonera

As a bonus episode to listeners, we wanted to share with you about Andrew Montonera's attempt to get LeSEA broadcasting to release hours and hours of "lost" or unreleased footage of Rich Mullins. He even went so far as to create a petition to get the footage released, which you can still sign here: LeSEA Broadcasting Petition. These tapes can essentially be considered "lost" because they've been sitting on a shelf for 20 years, untouched and unreleased. A good deal of the footage appeared on the Here in America CD/DVD album. That release contained a Live at Studio B concert with Mullins and the Ragamuffins, as well as segments from a two day seminar Mullins and Beaker gave.

But Andrew knew most of the footage has never been seen by more than a handful of people and decided to pursue finding a way for it to get released. In a surprising blessing, the management at LeSEA decided to allow Andrew to come to their studio for a private viewing. In this bonus episode Andrew goes over what he saw at his time at LeSEA (including what songs he heard) as well as his guesses as to how this footage might eventually be released. (check below for screenshots of the LeSEA footage, as well as videos of songs by the Ragamuffins, all the LeSEA footage that we currently have.)

UPDATE: You can find an update from Andrew about what is being done with the footage here

The Music of Jimmy Abegg

In our first episode we let you all know how amazing we thought Jimmy Abegg was at guitar and songwriting. But then we realized many of you may not even know what we mean. In order to remedy a lack of Jimmy A's music in your life we put together a list of much of his work. Below are various videos of Jimmy playing and links to where you can stream his solo albums and his albums with the band Vector. Also included are his times with Mullins and the Ragamuffins, with Charlie Peacock and Vince Ebo, and with Steve Taylor and the Perfect Foil. Let's hope Jimmy is able to put out more music in the future!
